Skewed, exponential pressure distributions from Gaussian velocities
A simple analytical argument is given to show that the distribution function of the pressure and that of its gradient have exponential tails when the velocity is Gaussian. A calculation of moments implies a negative skewness for the pressure. Explicit analytical results are given for the case of the velocity being restricted to a shell in wave number. Numerical pressure distributions are presen...

A numerical algorithm for solving a class of matrix equations
In this paper, we present a numerical algorithm for solving matrix equations $(A otimes B)X = F$ by extending the well-known Gaussian elimination for $Ax = b$. The proposed algorithm has a high computational efficiency. Two numerical examples are provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
متن کاملCADERNOS DE COMPUTAÇÃO XX (2003) Learning with Skewed Class Distributions
Several aspects may influence the performance achieved by a classifier created by a Machine Learning system. One of these aspects is related to the difference between the numbers of examples belonging to each class. When this difference is large, the learning system may have difficulties to learn the concept related to the minority class. In this work, we discuss several issues related to learn...
متن کاملModeling Skewed Class Distributions by Reshaping the Concept Space
We introduce an approach to learning from imbalanced class distributions that does not change the underlying data distribution. The ICC algorthm decomposes majority classes into smaller subclasses that create a more balanced class distribution. In this paper, we explain how ICC can not only address the class imbalance problem but may also increase the expressive power of the hypothesis space. W...
